Our Story

Nestled against the breathtaking Bitterroot National Forest in Hamilton, Montana, Longbottom Ranch is our vision for a better future.

Owned and operated by husband and wife team, Corey and Montana Longbottom. Longbottom Ranch and Montana Jane Equine, are dedicated to preserving the grace, practicality and wisdom found in our heritage and endangered livestock breeds. This goes hand in hand with our passion for the lifelong bond between horse and rider, on the ground, under saddle and with the horses we produce.

Montana Jane Equine

Montana Jane's lifelong passion for horses led her to earn a bachelor's degree in Animal Science and Equine Science from Montana State University in 2013. From there she trained horses and dogs independently, while gaining experience in the agricultural and equine industries. In 2016, she founded Montana Jane Equine, with a focus on colt starting and tune-ups. This laid the foundation for Longbottom Ranch, and opened the door to her first introduction to the Akhal-Teke. In 2017, she encountered Aasia, who served as the inspiration for the creation of our purebred Akhal-Teke and Montana Horse breeding program today. Montana Jane Equine also offers Lessons, Training, and Consultations.

Akhal-Teke Horse

Our commitment to this timeless legacy is reflected in our offering of two exceptional Akhal-Teke stallions at stud, and the sale horses that have emerged from our meticulous breeding and training programs. Scottish Highland Cattle

At Longbottom Ranch, our commitment to preserving ancient and hardy livestock breeds extends to the inclusion of Scottish Highland Cattle in our program. These magnificent creatures, with their distinctive appearance, remarkable adaptability, and exceptional milk and meat quality, and kind temperaments, complement our ethos of sustainable and eco-friendly agriculture.

Soay Sheep

Soay Sheep are a cornerstone of Longbottom Ranch, making a remarkable contribution to our mission to conserve ancient and endangered livestock breeds. Their hardy disposition and independent nature perfectly align with our sustainable practices, making them an essential component of our program. These sheep offer not only high butcher yields but also produce excellent fleeces that are cherished by artisans. Their role in weed management aids in maintaining our pastures, while their unique heritage, dating back to the creation by Vikings, adds a rich historical dimension to our endeavor. Soay Sheep embody the essence of our commitment to a more sustainable and grounded agricultural future.

Longbottom Heritage Meats

Our meat is grass fed and pasture raised on fields that have been herbicide and commercial fertilizer free for over twenty five years. Experience the flavors of premium heritage lamb and beef that our ancestors enjoyed, raised using the same sustainable practices. Custom lamb orders available for winter 2023 and spring 2024.
